- The UItimate 10th Edition Gladiator Games Teams

So I have a confession to make.
Warhammer 40k is a great game. I love it. I love playing it, I love painting the minis (although I’m not too good at it), I love the incredibly terrible dice rolls.
BUT TEAMS IS JUST SO MUCH BETTER.
I feel that teams is almost the perfect way to play 40k. And last weekend, we got to enjoy the ultimate Gladiator Gaming Teams for 10th Edition down at Fitzy’s in Loganholme.
You think the little RTT’s we hold are solid sized events? Well, let me just show you what a room of 180 sweaty nerds looks like:

It’s a thing of beauty.
So let me tell you a bit about teams.
In a singles game, you play your opponent, you win or you lose. Next round. And then at the end we give Liam his trophy and you figure out where you stand based on your W vs L (and some other factors too).
In teams, specifically the 6-person teams at Gladiator, you play using a differential scoring system and earn your team points. You win 95-91? That’s a 10-10 draw in teams! You win 95-38? You get a 20 and your opponent 0. You play against Imperial Knights and have your Stormsurge and Riptide go down turn 1 with the Riptide exploding and killing 6 kroot, 6 Fire Warriors and 3 Stealth suits because you had them nearby and rolled 6’s for mortal wounds? You get a 0 and your opponent 20.

But here’s the best part – it’s a total score for the team. So I get 0, another gets 3, another 15, 17 and a 20. This puts our score to 55 – a break point in 6-person of a round draw with still one result to go. And sure enough, Andy and his disgusting Defilers pulls out a 20. Up to 75 goes our team, and a Victory for the round.
So even if you personally don’t do great, you can still contribute something toward a team win.
AWESOME.
So at this Glad Event we had two teams; Lowrollers Forever 4th and the B-Team. Within the Lowrollers club we keep an eye on those hitting some good numbers and invite them to be on the “A-Team”, but then we also run the B-Team for those looking to come along, roll dice, and have fun.
That’s my kind of weekend!
So how did we (the B-team) do? Well, we started with a tactical draw to make sure we don’t rise too high and pair into too hard a team. We then rose too high and paired into that mob down at Irresistable Force and got pretty well cleaned up. But that brought us nicely down to go into Collateral Damage where we came away with a good win to finish day 1 at 1:1:1.

Day 2 we started strong; a solid win into Hammerhub saw us go in to the final round at 2:1:1 – a win here could bring us right up to a potential 4th place (forever 4th!). However… Remember that hypothetical I gave at the start about going into Imperial Knights? Yeah. That happened.

In the end, the B-Team ended up going pretty well – a final 2 wins : 1 draw : 2 losses (against the teams that came in 3rd and 4th) – and a 15/28 position, with the A-Team finishing their weekend with a drawn final round against the team that came in second to finish a very respectable 6th with 3 wins : 1 draw : 1 loss.
So you think you like 40k?
Come to a TEAMS EVENT and have your funky patterned socks knocked right off as this is the greatest way to experience this amazing game!
